Comparison: Blogger or Wordpress Which Is The Best?

Blogging is becoming one of day-to-day activity online, while others take it as a full-time business. A lot of new bloggers who wants to start blogging are often confused, about what? About which of the two most popular free blogging hosting service (Blogger and Wordpress) should they use.

Now let's assume that 5 million bloggers use Blogger and 4.5 million bloggers use Wordpress to run their personal blogs or magazines, ordinarily new bloggers will want to use Blogger knowing that it is the most popular free blogging hosting service. Well, as regards to that, I will not make any comments but have you decide on that.

I decided to use Blogger because it is hosted by the most powerful and secure internet company in the world: Google. And because I don't have to create another account considering the fact that I have a Google account.

Both Blogger and Wordpress are just awesome, but they both can't offer the same satisfaction to their users. Here are some comparison between Blogger and Wordpress.

1. Dashboards
Both Blogger and Wordpress uses dashboards as their homepage. I've taken my time to differentiate some few reasons that make them different. Let's check them out.

Blogger Dashboard

Blogger dashboard is just awesome, let's check it out!

If you are a Blogger user then the image should be familiar to you. Blogger dashboards have a very simple and clean design.

One thing I so much love about Blogger dashboard is that it provides a very clear navigation in a drop-down menu which users can easily use to go through the pages of your blog. It also gives users the opportunity to create an unlimited amount of blogs from its dashboard.

Users can also follow other top bloggers who have RSS feed enabled from the dashboard and also view their latest posts.

Wordpress Dashboard

Wordpress dashboard is also awesome but takes a little longer to load.

Unlike Blogger, Wordpress choose to simply split out all the important links in a fixed navigation sidebar so that their users can easily go through their blog instantly. It also gives you an overview of your blog.

Wordpress equally lets you view the posts of your favorites blogs and also follow them. Wordpress also allows you to write a draft post instantly from the dashboard.

Winner: Wordpress.

2. Alexa Rank

I consider it appropriate to also differentiate both Blogger and Wordpress' rank. Now let's see the most visited free blogging hosting service.

Blogger's Alexa Rank

Now let's see how popular Blogger is.

According to Alexa's 2016 rank. Blogger.com was ranked the 69th most visited site in the world. While it was dominating the 22nd spot in India which clearly shows that most Blogger users are from India.

Though Google was unable to make Blogger as popular as YouTube and other free services which Google offers. According to Alexa as well, Blogger's daily visitors have moved from 3% daily visitors to 7%. Which means in fewer years to come, Blogger would exit it's 69th position to another better position.

Wordpress Alexa Rank

Wordpress happens to be more popular than Blogger, let's see it's rank.

Wordpress was ranked as the 41st most visited site in the world in 2016 and the 39th in the United States. Though it seems as though Wordpress was demoted by 6th position from its previous rank maybe because it's beginning to lose its visitors.

Wordpress bypassed Blogger in rank by far.

Winner:  Wordpress

3. Photo Storage Space

Photo storage space is a very important factor for most bloggers who blog mostly about images and videos. Now let's look at them.

Blogger Photo Storage Space

Blogger gives their users a huge amount of storage space.

This is another reason why I prefer Blogger to Wordpress. Blogger gives their users 15GB storage space for photos. All images uploaded on Blogger blogs are also uploaded automatically to Picasa Web Albums (Google free photo hosting service).

Blogger also offers a lot of other ways in which users can upload images on their blogs including URL.

Wordpress Photo Storage Space

Let's see how Wordpress photo storage space works.

What a pathetic view it is indeed! Wordpress offers their users a lower storage space of 3,072 MB which is equivalent to 3GB. Unlike Blogger, Wordpress offers their users a very low storage space for both photos and music.

Wordpress can actually do their users a favor by pushing up the storage space from 3,072 MB to a larger storage space of 5,120 MB (5GB).

Winner: Blogger

4. Photo Uploading Options.

Bloggers want to have more convenient ways in which they can use to upload images on their blogs/websites. Let's check them out.

Blogger Photo Uploading Options

Blogger has quite a lot of photo uploading options. Let's see them.

This is yet another reason why I like Blogger, It has about 5 ways in which bloggers can use to upload images on their blog. Let's see them and how they work.
  • From this blog: This option allows you to use previously uploaded images on your blog with a single click on your current post.
  • From Picasa Web Albums: Picasa web albums allows you to upload images uploaded in your Picasa web albums on your blog.
  • From your Phone: You have to connect your phone using a USB cable, this option automatically sorts out all the images on your phone and then you can easily upload them without having to transfer them on your system.
  • From Your Webcam: This option allows you to capture images using your Camera and uploading to your blog post instantly.
  • From A URL: You can easily upload images from a URL or to make it more understandable, from a link.
Wordpress Photo Uploading Options

Let's check out Wordpress' uploading options.

Wordpress only offers two ways for their users to upload images on their blogs. Unlike blogger which gives users five ways to upload images on their blogs.

Wordpress can do something in improving their user experience by adding more image uploading options.

Winner: Blogger

 5. Developers Alexa Rank

I just thought of adding this as well. Let's check them out.

Blogger Developers Rank

Blogger's developers are Google.

Waw! Blogger's owners, Google is the world's most visited site in the world. It is also the most powerful internet company in the world with about 50 different apps/services.

Google also succeeded in making Blogger a very useful service in the world.

Wordpress Developers Rank

Let's check out Wordpress developers rank.

Wordpress.org was ranked 251st globally and 80th in India. But unfortunately, Wordpress was demoted by 44 positions in 2016. Wordpress really did lose it by far as in terms of Google.com which was ranked 1st Globally and 1st in the United States of America.

Wordpress.org is the place where Wordpress users go to ask questions and get answers to, find beautiful free Wordpress themes and more. How I wish Google can create something like this for Blogger users.

Winner: Blogger

6. Access to Themes/Templates

This section focuses on how both Wordpress and Blogger users access themes/templates.

Blogger Themes/Templates

Let's see how Blogger users have access to themes/templates.

Blogger offers their users a wide range of awesome but simple themes/templates. But the most important part of it is that of all these templates are free.

Blogger templates ranges from Simple, Dynamic Views, Picture Windows, Awesome Inc, Watermark, Ethereal, Travel and Classic templates. Each having the same layout but different customized designs and views.

Wordpress Themes/Templates

Wordpress offers a lot of awesome professional templates for free.

Though Wordpress offers a wide range of professional customized templates, though Wordpress templates are far more beautiful than that of Blogger. Wordpress templates are well customized and serve for different purposes.

Though not all Wordpress templates are free, some of the best Wordpress templates costs few dollars while some costs a few hundreds more.

Many Blogger templates are adapted from Wordpress and then converted to XML files which are appropriate for Blogger.

Winner: Wordpress

7. Photo Editing Options

Photo editing options are most important for search engine optimization (SEO).

Blogger Photo Editing Options

Let's check out Blogger photo editing options.

After uploading your images on your blog there are many things your can do such as adding an ALT text on your photo for SEO purposes.

Blogger supports the following photo editing options: resizing options like Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, Original Size, including some alignment such as Move Left, Center or Right, and some interesting options such as Add Caption and Properties.

Wordpress Photo Editing Options

Wordpress also have a lot of other photo editing options.

Wordpress also offers the same photo uploading options except for the option of resizing images from Small, Medium, Large, X-Large and Original which Wordpress doesn't offer.

Wordpress equally support some editing options such as Align Left, Align Center, Align Right and No Alignment, resizing options: Increase Size and Decrease Size and Caption.

Winner: Blogger

8. AdSense Sign up

Both Wordpress and Blogger users can both apply for AdSense from their blogs.

Blogger AdSense Sign up

Let's the Blogger AdSense sign up page.

This is another reason why many Blogger users easily sign up for Google AdSense easily than Wordpress or any other free blog hosting sites.

Google managed to easily integrate this feature to their sidebar. After approximately 6 months the sign-up button for AdSense on your Earnings tab should be click-able and afterward, you can apply for AdSense.

Wordpress AdSense Sign Up

Wordpress also allows you to sign up for AdSense from your blog.

Just like Blogger, Wordpress equally supports a sign up for AdSense plugin directly from the settings tab on your Wordpress blog. Wordpress and Blogger both supports the AdSense sign up from your blog. But it seems that Blogger is easier.

Winner: Draw: Blogger and Wordpress

Overview

Blogger happens to be the best in terms of comparison.

Blogger had 5 points but Wordpress which had 4 points.
